devising
red lights
catcall
metronome sound
dance match song
men smiling
women dancing
amsterdam
prostitution
few people watching at first
crowd grows men dance along
filming
cheering at end
stop trafficking as at end
people look confused
when we first watched the piece i was very confused and didn’t understand the point of what was happening. i was disturbed by the faces that the men were making while watching the women dance, and i though it was not appropriate of them to be catcalling and filming. i finally understood the purpose by the end. it was to raise awareness about the problem of prostitution anoung women. i though that this was a strong message that needs to be talked about more, but all the men looked ver disappointed. some looked ashamed, but most just looked flat out disappointed. i think that once u get to the end it was a very good way of starting a conversation that may be hard for others to talk about. though many problem are just ignored and set aside these day, the media has played a role of getting conversations started. for examples like #metoo, and even tv shows. 13 reasons why is a big conversation started. it brings up uncomfortable topics liken rape, survive, and bullying that need to be discussed.
i think that the way this performance was deliverers was very effective. it began kind of boring, then got quite interesting and hooked your attention. after the performance was over it took a sudden twist. a screen talking about how sex trafficking needs to end was displayed. this screen took the entire crowd by surprise. i think this was avery effective way to start a conversation about something that people don’t usually want to bring up. by adding having an interesting performance followed by a shocking end it is a tactic that will make the ideas stay in the person head after they watch. if they remember it, they can start a conversation about it and make others more aware.
in the past our society has just seemed to just avoid all topics that aren’t easy to talk about. we are rude about topics that we are too ignorant to learn about.
