Final project proposal
For my final project I have decided to do a monologue followed with a short piano performance. This project will definitely be stretching my abilities as both an actor as well as a musical performer. For acting wise, I decided to do a more serious monologue that I will write myself. These are the first 2 areas I will need to stretch myself. I haven't been very strong this year with serious monologues, and I have certainly never written one. Most of the performances from this year were comedic, so I feel very comfortable with them. But serious/dramatic, that's definitely gonna be a challenge. I have never written my own monologue to perform. I mean of course I have written poems, essays, and short stories. But monologues. That’s a whole new thing. They have to be short enough to remember, but include enough that the audience still understands the story. I think that the combo of serious and writing it myself will really push me to do my best and really challenge me. But I also think if I really work hard, it will turn out good. I have done a monologue before but not in this form. In this final I will really try to take all the skills I have learned this year and out it all together even though it will be hard. I am hoping that it will also open my eyes to a whole new side of theater. For the performance portion I will be using a song that I have worked with in the past, but not much. I have played piano for the past 8 years of my life on and off. There have been points I lost interest, but I always seem to go back to it. When you play you can really just lose yourself in the music. Over the time I’ve been playing I have participated in many recitals, accompanied school concerts, and placed at the school, state, and national level in the Reflections program. Piano and music has always been a huge part of my life, so I wanted to include it in my final performance. The performance overall will be a challenge because I get very nervous when I play in front of anyone, especially if it is being graded. That has always been something I struggle with in anything. But if I am able to get past the stage fright, it could add a lot to the project and add another level to it. I think that this project will test me in new ways, but also really help me learn a lot of new things. I am hoping our past projects like the first monologue, the Friends scene, the devised unit, silent movie, etc will help me with this project. When practicing I will try to take aspect I learned from each of those unit to do something I’ve never done before. Overall I am really excited for this project. I think it will really help myself see what I am capable, and push me really hard.
